Join us in celebrating the winning and highly commended writers of our award-winning program: The Other City – Living Stories Western Sydney Writing Prize 2023!
Sunday the 30th is a unique opportunity to come to the WestWords Centre for Writing in Parramatta — to not only collect your copy of the publication — but we are also inviting all winning and highly commended writers to showcase their work! Between 11am and 1pm there will be an open mic on stage, where all winners and highly commended writers are welcome to read their work — freshly published in the anthology! — in front of a crowd. The performances will be recorded, and go on to be showcased on our website. This is a call for participation from our featured writers!
The Living Stories Writing Prize has been a platform for residents of Western Sydney, Wingecarribee, and Wollondilly Shire to share their voices and narratives. With over 2.5 million Australians from diverse backgrounds residing in this vibrant region, the anthology showcases the rich tapestry of cultures, languages, and perspectives that make Western Sydney truly unique.
The theme, “the other city,” has inspired writers of all ages to explore and imagine alternative urban landscapes, both real and imagined. From heartfelt poems to captivating stories and thought-provoking personal essays, the winning entries will take you on a journey through the literary landscape of Western Sydney.
This program, and the stories we tell, wouldn’t be possible without the support of our partners, Arab Bank, Booktopia, Australian Catholic University (ACU), Create NSW, James N. Kirby Foundation and WestLit Libraries.
