The Finishing School Collective took up the first residency to be given to a writing group at the WestWords Centre for Writing in January of 2018. Co-directed by Felicity Castagna, Faith Chaza, and Sheila Pham, Finishing School Collective is a collective of women writers with strong connections to western Sydney. Their goal is to provide emerging women writers who have already shown potential and dedication to their craft with long term mentoring and professional development. All the women involved in the collective are working towards completing an entire fiction or non-fiction manuscript. They receive one-on-one mentoring as well as master classes in craft and opportunities to promote their work. The goal of Finishing School is to identify and develop women who will be the future voices of the western Sydney region.
Based in Parramatta, Finishing School collective is the only literary organisation in the western suburbs of Sydney that is run by women. They will take up this residency from January 10 – February 2, using the rooms to workshop group projects; develop personal projects in a collaborative environment; and write, write, write!
