Life-Writing with Fiona Wright

This workshop, with poet and essayist Fiona Wright, explores some ways in which you can craft compelling writing – in any form – from raw experience and the detail of everyday life, to ensure your life-writing matters to other people, as well as yourself.

Stanhope Scribblers Writers Group

This is a free group for young people of 9-13 years who love playing with words and stories. Facilitated by local writer Barbara Politis, numbers are limited, so bookings are essential. Contact james@westwords.com.au for more information.

Hemingway’s Polydactyl Kitten Club

Against the kitsch-chic of the Avalon Cocktail Bar in Katoomba, the Kitten Club is a monthly spoken word event, where the audience is encouraged to share their own work, whilst also hearing from an invited guest. Guests in 202 included musician and poet Kate Fagan, illustrator, editor and author Tohby Riddle, and poet Mark Tredinnick.

Story Room

In partnership with Parramatta City Library, WestWords facilitates Story Room, a series of creative writing workshops for young people aged 9-12 years old taught by various authors throughout the year.

The program runs for five weeks and is dedicated to developing creative writing techniques. In the final week of the program, each child is given the opportunity to present their individual pieces of creative work to their parents and peers.
